Since I talk about how much music has been part of my life, here is a great little challenge that I had a chance to do on the Running On Sober site: Tell us a story–your story–in six songs. Also the song I chose for the podcast, Cornflake Girl by Toti Amos, resonates with me because I love the power and the sound of the piano in it, and I never was a cornflake girl!

After I said that ADHD was not a disability I had to check it because I actually did not know. Here is what Google said: It is estimated that between 3 and 5 percent of children have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or approximately 2 million children in the United States. This means that in a classroom of 24 to 30 children, it is likely that at least one will have ADHD. ADHD is not considered to be a learning disability – ADHD – Learning Disabilities Association of America.

Here is one of the articles I read about the reward charts: What’s wrong with reward charts? – an article which summarizes the the findings in the paper from ABAI: Pervasive negative effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation: The myth continues.

And… the sandwich theory – it really does exist: The Compliment Sandwich Feedback Technique, with Examples.

Here are two great articles about how to deal with your tween: 7 Ways to Fix Rude Tween Behavior and Teenagers Talking Back: How to Manage This Annoying Behavior

Cornflake Girl – TORI AMOS

Never was a cornflake girl
Thought that was a good solution
Hanging with the raisin girls
She’s gone to the other side
Giving us a yo heave ho
Things are getting kind of gross
And I go at sleepy time
This is not really happening
You bet your life it is [3x]

Peal out the watchword
Just peal out the watchword

She knows what’s going on
Seems we got a cheaper feel now
All the sweeties are gone
Gone to the other side
With my encyclopedia
They must’ve paid her a nice price
She’s putting on her string bean love
This is not really happening
You bet your life it is [3x]

Peal our the watchword
Just peal out the watchword

Never was a cornflake girl
Thought that was a good solution

Rabbit, where’d you put the keys, girl?
Rabbit, where’d you put the keys, girl?
Rabbit, where’d you put the keys?
Oh, yeah
Rabbit, where’d you put the keys, where’d you put the keys, girl

And the man with the golden gun thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much yeah
(Don’t close this door I know it’s so easy)
And the man with the golden gun thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much yeah
(To close this door I know it’s so easy)

Rabbit, where’d you put the keys, girl?
Oh yes, rabbit, where’d you put the keys, girl?
Rabbit, where’d you put the keys?
Oh yeah
Rabbit, where’d you put the keys, girl?
