Sober “Superheroes” – SC Podcast EP_08

On this episode I am sharing with you about the amazing support that I continue to find on the internet from perfect strangers who this time, help me find my voice (and my “balls,” LOL) to advocate for my son. I also discuss our difficult decision to start him on medication to help with his behavioral and educational struggles stemming from ADHD.

I also talk about doing new things in sobriety that I used to only do while drunk! And I discuss the amazing benefits of being part of a fellowship of sober people, and I also throw in some suggestions on keeping busy thru the long holiday weekend.

I hope that you really enjoy this episode, and please be sure to check out all the other great podcasts on the SRN Network.

*** I am currently looking for guests for the podcast to share their recovery and parenting stories! Please email me at sobercourage@gmail.com if you are interested, I would love to have you on the show!***

Understanding Individualized Education Programs (IEP) – A federal law called the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that public schools create an IEP for every child receiving special education services. Kids from age 3 through high school graduation or a maximum age of 22 (whichever comes first) may be eligible for an IEP.

Understanding 504 Plans –  This type of plan falls under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This is the part of the federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against public school students with disabilities. That includes students with learning and attention issues who meet certain criteria.

How Antidepressants are Used to Treat Anxiety – There are a number of different medications that are currently used to treat anxiety disorders. Antidepressants, although originally intended to treat depression, have been found to be effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety.

Superheroes – THE SCRIPT

All her life she has seen
All the meanest side of me
They took away the prophet’s dream for a profit on the street

Now she’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

All his life he’s been told
He’ll be nothing when he’s old
All the kicks and all the blows
He won’t ever let it show

‘Cause he’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

All the hurt, all the lies
All the tears that they cry
When the moment is just right
You see fire in their eyes

‘Cause he’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power

When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

(Every day, every hour
Turn the pain into power)

(Power, power, power, power, power)
(Power, power, power, power, power)

She’s got lions in her heart
A fire in her soul
He’s got a beast in his belly
That’s so hard to control
‘Cause they’ve taken too much hits
Taking blow by blow
Now light a match, stand back, watch them explode

She’s got lions in her heart
A fire in her soul
He’s got a beast in his belly
That’s so hard to control
‘Cause they’ve taken too much hits
Taking blow by blow
Now light a match, stand back, watch them explode, explode, explode, explode

You’ve been working every day and night
That’s how a superhero learns to fly

(Power, power, power, power, power)
Oh, yeah…
(Power, power, power, power, power)
When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
